The treasure of the sea
Sea Kelp contains trace elements present in the seas. It is perhaps the most balanced source of trace elements in the world. Iodine is also the most important of the trace elements.
Why do we need trace elements at all?
This is the weakest link theory. No matter how strong a chain is, it will break where there is a weak link. In nutrition, if there are 100 nutrients that are lacking and can cause problems in the body, it is useless to eat 99 in sufficient quantities. A complete lack of a single vitamin, mineral or trace mineral can be just as much of a problem as not eating half of them. Seaweed tablets contain high levels of iodine, which many people know is a component of thyroid hormones. Normally, an adult body contains about 15-20 mg of iodine. It plays an important role in maintaining the healthy functioning of the thyroid gland as it is an essential component of the hormone it produces. The thyroid gland regulates the metabolism of cells, how fast and how efficiently energy molecules are used. Iodine deficiency reduces the body's physical and mental performance. Sea Kelp contains significant amounts of natural iodine!
Iodine is particularly necessary for the following functions:
- It contributes to the maintenance of normal mental function.
- It is involved in normal energy-producing metabolic processes.
- Contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system.
- Also contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, nails and hair.
- Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and the normal functioning of the thyroid gland.
- It regulates metabolism.
Iodine absorption depends on the iodine saturation of the body. Its absorption is negatively affected by quite a few plants, including kale, cabbage, radish, Brussels sprouts. However, the goitrogens (naturally occurring compounds that inhibit the production of thyroid hormones) found in these plants are sensitive to high heat, so if consumed, it is best to eat them cooked. It is also affected by fluoride and nitrate (toothpastes, industrial meat products), both of which inhibit it.
Vitaking Sea Kelp tablets contain 100mg of seaweed, of which 150mcg is iodine.
