- Absorption of zinc bisglycate and other forms of zinc
Zinc is absorbed by active transport, bound to amino acids, small molecule proteins, in the initial and partially in the middle part of the small intestine. Zinc bisglycinate has a 143.4% higher bioavailability compared to zinc gluconate (source: Gandia, P., Bour, D., Maurette, J. M., Donazzolo, Y., Duchene, P., Béjot, M., & Houin, G. (2007). A bioavailability study comparing two oral formulations containing zinc (Zn bis-glycinate vs. Zn gluconate)
Zinc bis-glycinate > zinc gluconate = zinc citrate > zinc oxide
It is important to note that the absorption of the most commonly used organic forms of zinc - zinc gluconate and zinc citrate - are the same, with no significant difference between them.
However, zinc bisglycinate in our product has a better bioavailability compared to organic zinc salt (zinc gluconate) when tested in healthy humans.
There are four reasons for the absorption of zinc bisglycinate:
- Firstly, each glycine molecule contains two functional groups (carboxyl group, amino group) that are able to bind to the zinc ion through covalent and coordinated covalent bonds.</l
