The American cranberry is a dwarf shrub native to North America, whose tiny berries were prized by the Native Americans. They were not only eaten as food, but also used as a dye and medicine, for example to treat wounds, fevers, stomach problems and urinary tract infections.
American cranberries are a rich source of vitamins C, E and K1, manganese, copper and antioxidant flavonoids. Its main active constituents are proanthocyanidins (PACs), which are particularly valuable for the health of the urinary tract.
