1. Impact during menopause

• In Switzerland, the effects of medicinal sage leaves were studied in 71 women who had been experiencing menopausal symptoms for at least 12 months. The patients were given a capsule containing sage leaf extract once a day for 8 weeks. The researchers wanted to see the reduction in the number and frequency of hot flushes over the course of the study. The first results were recorded after four weeks, by which time hot flushes had reduced by 50 per cent, and after 8 weeks the results improved further, with a reduction of 64 per cent. The most severe hot flushes in the subjects had disappeared completely. Other menopause-related symptoms (malaise, physical symptoms, etc.) also decreased significantly.
